Food animals are raised under strict regulations and documentation from birth to slaughter. There are many substances that cannot be used even once or that animal is permanently removed from the human food chain. None of this applies to horses.

There is NO regulation or documentation at all. Substances that are banned for use in food animals are some of the most widely used horse medications and other products. Once any of these products are used on a horse, that horse is no longer eligible for slaughter for human consumption.
